Night and low-light photography of buildings and cities is one of my favorite subjects. When in Santa Barbara, California for a family event, I snuck off with my tripod and shot several frames of Stearns Wharf jutting into the Pacific Ocean at dusk. A bit touristy, the Wharf still makes a great subject for low-light photography. While a tripod adds weight and takes up space in the suitcase, it is essential for capturing subjects at this time of night. Skip a change of clothes and come back with great photos - the family won't remember what you were wearing anyway.
